Slutty Fringe

Where do they get the time? Blessed with parents armed with the foresight to christen them with true rock n roll names, Tony Poland and John Power are not content with scaling the heights of London’s DJ scene and putting on notoriously good parties, the Slutty Fringe folks are also a fine pair of wordsmiths and not averse to knocking out the odd-bit of vinyl. We dragged ‘em in for a haircut, they said no, so we compromised on an interview. It’s all yours: -

Qype: Slutty Fringe or Tarty Perm?

Slutty Fringe: The Slutty Fringe will always be dear to my heart, though lately I’ve become a big fan of the Flashdance-era perm rocking girl with a loose Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls top and high riding denim shorts look – Little Boots had this look on lockdown when she was still in Dead Disco.

Qype: Ken or Boris?

SF: Boris does have a fringe and relatively loose morals, so he’d probably be more fun in the disco, not quite sure I want him running the tube though.

Qype: Rodneys: Trotter or Marsh?

SF: Without a doubt Marsh.

Qype: What is your favourite smell in London?

SF: The sorely missed pie shop in Greenwich.

Qype:…..and the worst?

SF: That honking cheese shop in Neals Yard

Qype: Would you rather be re-incarnated as the Dalai Lama or Glenn Hoddle?

SF: Diamond Lights forever.

Qype: Why do fools fall in love?

SF: To encourage the seasonal migration of birds I believe.

Qype: If Qype could arrange to have one Londoner ‘dealt with’ on your behalf. No comebacks, no Old Bill etc. Who would you choose?

SF: The proprietor of aforementioned cheese shop.

Qype: A track that is forever in your record box (or should that be CD pouch of laptop)?

SF: Right now it’s the Purple Remix of Controversy by Prince just for the sexual feelings the cover art stirs in me.

Qype: …and one that you’d rather be dragged naked over hot coals by Henry Kissinger than play?

SF: Anything Pendulum related

Qype: Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner…

SF: That I sit at home complaining there’s nothing on when I’m surrounded by countless museums, galleries and the like.

Qype: Ok, finally. You have 30 secs to big up Slutty Fringe..

SF: If you like good new music and occassionally coherent writing check out our blog, if you like owning gorgeous vinyl check out our record label, and if you like dancing, drinking and snogging strangers come to our parties.

Ok, the last answer was a mere 12 seconds long. Take issue with them over such slackness at any of their upcoming appearances: -

3rd April – The Last Days of Disco @ Bardens
12th April – Milky Disco @ Cargo
16th April – Land Of Kings Festival, Dalston
17th April – London Sunshine, Deptford
24th April – SLUTTY FRINGE @ Cargo
