There was much excitement surrounding last Tuesday’s Dr Sketchy’s Life Drawing Class, and organiser Clare-Marie was kind enough to invite a whole bunch of lucky Qypers along to take part.
The Royal Vauxhall Tavern was packed to the rafters with twenty and thirty-somethings clutching pencils and paper with varying degrees of fear showing in their faces. Some were clearly art students (ex and current) but most seemed to be there to try something new or to build on a hobby in a fun way, and the fast and furious drawing exercises led by capable compere Dusty Limits made sure everyone got stuck in right from the start.
The performers were a hit – a very Monroe-esque Slinky Sparkles wowed the crowds with a variety of costumes and coquettish moves, kicking off the night with a cupcake routine and expertly wielding a pair of glamorous black feather fans to finish. Spencer Maybe the Devil carried off the hot grungey boy-in-eyeliner look brilliantly and clearly revelled in singing along to his own funk rock tunes while stripping down to his underpants. Between performances both adopted various poses while Dusty Limits set us fresh challenges for capturing them on paper.

See you all there next month?
