Blogger Interview: Luisa & Robert from The Style Scout

Continuing our recent series of interviews with London’s best bloggers, we’ve temporarily stopped drooling over our favourite food-and-drink blogs for a foray into fashion instead. We’re starting with Luisa and Robert, the rather smartly-dressed couple behind The Style Scout:

Qype: What prompted you to start Style Scout, and what elements do you think have contributed to it becoming popular?

Luisa & Robert: We had just returned from living in New York and we were struck by how the people in the streets of London looked so great. We decided to start documenting what we saw so that we could share with our friends and family around the world. We soon started obsessing and could not go out anymore without our cameras! I think what makes The Style Scout successful are our subjects who reflect London’s very unique energy and style.

Qype: Who’s your fashion icon? Best designer you saw at London Fashion Week? And who was the worst?

Luisa & Robert: Our fashion icons change almost on a daily basis. I think what makes someone a fashion icon is confidence and whimsy and almost everyone we photograph becomes some kind of inspiration, not just to us but also to our visitors. That’s why we like London style so much, people here usually don’t take themselves too seriously, which is great. In terms of our favourites, we liked many pieces in the Erdem collection and Burberry was also cool. Paul Smith was classic and beautiful with his reference to a “naughty debutante”. We try not to think of the bad ones…

Qype: What are your favourite places in London to visit when you need a new outfit?

Luisa & Robert: We scavenge the many vintage stores around Brick Lane, but also like to mix the vintage pieces we buy with new pieces from the high-street. Some of our constant favorites are Uniqlo for basics and Selfridges for designer pieces. For exclusive pieces we like Beyond The Valley and bStore, and for some fashion indulgence we go to Liberty

Qype: Where do the fashionistas of London hang out, and where do you get the best snaps?

Luisa & Robert: We take our best shots around Brick Lane, unless it’s Fashion Week, when we photograph around the shows. We also find interesting subjects on Portobello and sometimes on Carnaby Street.

Qype: Can you tell us your trend predictions for next season?

Luisa & Robert: We have been spotting lots of red, silver and purple, boys wearing tapered chinos and girls wearing many, many stripes.

Qype: Give us one place which you think every Londoner should have in their ‘little black book of hidden gems’?

Luisa & Robert: There is a great small hotel in East London called 40 Winks. There are only two rooms,  the decoration of the place is truly amazing and David, the owner, organizes lots of fun events there.
