Blogger Interview: Nathalie and Sara from Emerging Fervour
We got a hold of the dynamic duo, Nathalie and Sara, who are the creators of the fashion blog Emerging Fervour, to add to our blogger interview series, revealing their secrets of success.
Qype: Can you tell Qypers who you are and what you do?
Sara: Hello! I’m Sara and I co-founded Emerging Fervour with Nathalie. We used to work together at a creative agency as project managers (she was my boss) and one thing led to another and our mutual passion for fashion gave us the idea to start our own blog and write about all the amazing things we find.
Nathalie: I’m Nathalie and when I don’t play with the fashion world, I am a project consultant for anything digital. I used to be a developer and then moved into project management but having worked over 10 years in digital agencies, last year I decided to go it alone to see where it can take me as a contractor. A decision I’ve not regretted, and the best bit is, it’s given me a lot of extra time which I am able to dedicate to Emerging Fervour.
Qype: What prompted you to start your blog, and what elements do you think have contributed to it becoming so popular?
Sara: I remember talking to Nat one day about emerging designers, and how it’s really difficult finding them online and how amazing it would be if we put together that information and share it with people like us. We really started the blog to share all the great emerging designers and musicians because they’re just too amazing to be missed – the spotlight needs to be shared between the emergings and established, they need a platform too.
Nathalie: That was definitely the driving force. I think it might also be popular because we write from the heart, we write about our passion which makes it easy to find content and we just have a go at it. We might not have a formal background in fashion, but what we lack for in experience, we make up for in passion! We also have a few bloggers writing for us, so our readers get different views from the emerging music scene.
Qype: Who’s your fashion icon? Best designer you saw at London Fashion Week? And the worst?
Nathalie: I have to say Vivienne Westwood, her style is just amazing and she’s not stopping which I admire the most! She looks like she loves every minute of it even after all those years and her collections are always to die for! During AW10, we went to around 15 shows – mainly for Vauxhall Fashion Scout but I have to say, clothes wise they didn’t really blow me away – it just wasn’t my style. Most collections were so sad, dark and depressing, whereas I’m more into colour… I know it’s the autumn/winter collection, but still. So unsurprisingly, the one that stood out for me was Doii Paris, it felt like a breath of fresh air. Lovely patterns, sequins and fabrics made it very Alice in Wonderland and just that little bit different from the rest.
Sara: My favourite LFW designer is Bodyamr hands down, his AW10 show was stunning. The guy has gone from strength to strength and he’s definitely going places. Different to Nathalie – I could do the dark and moody look – the Kinder Aggugini show definitely rocked it in that department. To be honest, LFW is mainly filled with emerging designers – and I’ll always give them respect because it’s obvious a lot of passion and creativity goes into their creations, even if it’s something I wouldn’t wear, I do appreciate it. Looking at my fashion icons though is tougher to answer because I mix so many different styles – and to be honest I’m not so into the whole celebrity icon thing so I usually get my inspiration from the general public or friends… real people without stylists.
Qype: What are your favourite places in London to visit when you want to go shopping?
Nathalie: I love markets and think London is the best place for this. We are spoiled with Spitalfields, Upmarket (my personal favourite) Portobello, Camden and others – the choice is endless. I worked around Portobello for a long time and there are a couple of small places which sell great, affordable pieces. Apple Tree & Fussy Nation are two of them, especially Fussy Nation which stock some great individual pieces in the back. My main shopping I do online though, call it research
Sara: I like going to all the London Markets – you can find some pretty cool on-offs from emerging designers. However I do love the High Street stuff such as Whistles, Reiss, Topshop etc. I rarely shop online because I’m the worst when it comes to returning it…I just forget about it until it’s too late. I think I need Nathalie to help keep me organised sometimes!
Qype: Where do the fashionistas of London hang out and where do you get the best snaps?
Nathalie: We go to a lot fashion events where its photo heaven. Any fashion events really. For a really amazing dancy night out, parties organised by E.T.A. are always a winner.
Sara: The best snaps would have to be around Brick Lane, although it gets a bit samey…same hair cuts, same shades, same skinny jeans. We should do a bit more of the spotted thing though, where we take snaps of the general public – I think our readers really like that feature.
Qype: Can you tell us your trend predictions for next season?
Sara: I’m praying that wedges stay on for season after season because it’s the only type of heel that I can wear! I’m loving the African prints that seem to be a growing trend – growing up in Liberia definitely makes this my favourite trend and I reckon it’s here to stay
Nathalie: I think utility will stay, be that in clothing & shoes – practical clothing will hang around as I think the economy is still affecting collections but I really hope next season will become a bit more flamboyant again. And winter/autumn shoes will be all about the bootie!! Stiletto, laced-up, over-the-knee, under it you name it as long as it’s a bootie you’ll be fine. But sadly you might see a lot of fur included.
Qype: Finally, Give us one place which you think every Londoner should have in their ‘Little black book of hidden gems’.
Sara: I tried this pizza place a few weeks back, and I keep going on about it to my friends and I’m going to go on about it to you. Pronto Pizza around Church Street is probably the best pizza I have had ever. Definitely a hidden gem!
Nathalie: Place to go out: Cellar Door – a converted public toilet in Covent Garden. Not only the best cocktails (yum) but also the most amazing shows. It’s possibly the smallest bar and an even smaller stage but you can guarantee a good night with mash-up cabaret or burlesque dancers. Surreal and so London!
