Guru Event: Frozen Yoghurt Tasting at Frae

Last week we headed to the recently refurbished Frae in Islington for yummy frozen yoghurt event with a twist. Rather than be sensible and choose strawberries, chocolate chips or granola, we were lucky enough to play with all the ingredients on offer. But this being a Qype event, we weren’t about to keep things simple – what’s the fun in that? So we threw in a few surprise ingredients like cherry tomatoes, baked beans, sweetcorn and cold scrambled eggs. Yum.

And they didn’t go untouched. Frae won’t be adding a baked bean and scrambled egg variety to their menu, but it’s a combination that was tried and tested. According to the tester “bizarrely the baked beans worked with frozen yoghurt”.

Luckily Frae let us sample some of their more conventional (but delicious) ingredients. We mix and matched lovely fresh seasonal fruit and nuts with brownies, oreos and chocolate chips. Some enterprising Qypers brought along their own ingredients – popping candy worked surprisingly well, as did a selection of Japanese chocolates.

The yoghurt flowed freely, so we got to experiment with each and every topping. Baked beans and cold scrambled egg aside, there were some pretty delicious inventions! Green tea flavour frozen yoghurt topped with coconut, pineapple and mango was a particular favourite of one inventive Qyper. The rest of us seemed content to heap on as much chocolate drops and brownies as possible. All of this was washed down with prosecco in Frae’s gorgeous shop. We’ll be back, if only to work out if we prefer the natural or green tea flavour the most.
