Guru Event: Bar Food and Cocktails at the new Hawksmoor, October 27th 7pm

Those of you who love your meat will have been waiting very very patiently for Hawksmoor‘s new venue to open in Covent Garden. By ‘waiting patiently’ I of course mean chewing off your own arm in frustration. It’s not that the Shoreditch venue isn’t fabulous, but well, I’m really very nosy. I want to see inside! I love the East London venue, it’s beautiful and the food is fantastic. But I want tasty steak options depending on which part of town I’m in. Yes, that’s what’s called having your steak and eating it.

Luckily, the wait is nearly over and the Hawksmoor guys are letting us in early on the 27th October. We already know that they dish up a good piece of meat, so this event is all about discovering their other offerings. They’re going to treat 30 Qypers to their bar snack menu, and they’ll even throw in a free cocktail on arrival. You’ll get to try a whole range of their tasty snacks (but if you want more drinks, you’ll have to pay for them yourself) and enjoy a much more casual evening, instead of a sit down meal.

What yummy things can you expect on the night? Well we’ve been given a sneak peek of the new bar menu, and we’re talking cocktails inspired by historical classics (the sherry cobbler sounds particularly exciting) but with a Shakey Pete twist. And I assure you, that’s the best kind of cocktail twist. Foodwise, you can expect everything from nuggets of pork belly to rock oysters. And I’ve got my beady eye on the wild mushrooms on sourdough. It’s a really exciting menu, and if you want to see the rest, you’ll have to come down on the night. If you want more snippets of their opening, make sure you’re following them on Twitter and Facebook as well.

As always, you’ll need to get over to the Qypers Love Events forum and get your name down. Then we’ll pull names out of a hat and let you know who has made the list. See you there!

Qypers Learn to Pull at Stella Artois Masterclass

DSC_7621

Next time a night out at the pub leaves you feeling a bit bloated, it might not be the fault of the beer or even your penchant to drink mass quantities of it. As learned last night at the Stella Artois beer and pint pouring masterclass, it might be due to a lousy bartender.

Qyper Andy Horsfall with Master Beer Sommelier Marc Stroobandt

Giving top notch and on-tap pointers throughout the evening was Master Beer Sommelier, Marc Stroobandt, whose nine-step pouring process seems a guaranteed excellent way to serve a draft beer. As winners of our “Learn How to Pull” competition, Qypers webdotnet and Andy Horsfall got a hands-on training (along with plenty of free beer and food) from Marc Stroobandt.

The masterclass was held at Mayfair’s swank Cuckoo Club, an ideal venue for such lofty endeavours. London pint pullers be warned! We know what you’re doing and how you should be doing it. Proper pints please!
