Qype Event: Battle of the Sexes at The Tommyfield

As part of our fifth birthday celebrations, we decided to throw a pub quiz to put an end to the age-old war of girls v boys. While we may not have broken down gender barriers and ensured equality for future generations, we did have a really fun night.

Last night just over forty Qypers headed to The Tommyfield in Kennington for a series of fiendish challenges and mini fish ‘n’ chips at our Battle of the Sexes event. Our very own Eamon and Jane played the roles of fair (but strict) quizmasters, keeping order when things got a bit rowdy:

Once we had the boys and girls settled on either side of the room, proceedings kicked off with our Practical Test. The boys aced both challenges – not only did they change the plug fuse quicker, they also won the make-up round!

It seems that the subtle and sophisticated look favoured by the girls was no match for the nu-rave palette:

But the girls did put up a hell of a fight. The Drinking Test was nearly a draw, with the boys downing the pint that millisecond faster:

…and the girls did a great job in the Never Mind The Buzzcocks-esque Music Test, humming their way through Dancing Queen, Bad Romance and Sex on Fire.

Unfortunately the girls were less successful in the Taste Test. Representatives from each team were blindfolded and given various foodstuffs to identify:

The Marmite and dragonfruit went down well. The strong cheese and Bloody Mary and oyster shot? Not so much:

Finally, the Quickfire General Knowledge Test sealed the deal for the boys. While the girls could name all four Sex & The City characters and tell us what a wooden spoon and chewing gum have in common, the boys were the first to tell us what a GHD was. Suspicious, eh?

Their prize? A £100 bar tab, which they gracefully shared with the girls (and which the girls gracefully accepted).

Most of us stayed for a few drinks in The Tommyfield’s gorgeous private room and delved into the goody bags, where a Golden Ticket was hiding for one lucky Qyper. The winner of that ticket was the lovely Yukino, who won a meal and drinks for two at any Renaissance Pub.

Thanks again to The Tommyfield for having us!

Head on over to our Facebook page to see more snaps from the event.
